The Doula Advantage – Rachel Gurevich

The Doula Advantage
The book the doula advantage by Rachel Gurevich, answers every question about doulas that I can think of.  The book starts out answering basic questions such as what is a doula. Why to get a doula, and what training doulas receive. The book discusses different types of doulas and which ones you should consider hiring.
What I liked about The Doula Advantage.
Personally I loved that The Doula Advantage I read it cover to cover without wanting to put it down. I loved the birthing moments sections that break up the book. There are some amazing stories and I’m sure that these will make their way to surface in my career as a doula.  The Doula Advantage covered everything in my opinion. From the kind of support that a mother will get from a doula to additional help with creating the birth plan/ wish list. I really enjoyed the dads and doulas chapter (Chapter 4, page 61) I like how it explains how doulas can support the father as well, and enhance his role in the birth rather than take away from it. If fathers are still hesitant in hiring a doula I  recommend that they read this chapter.  They added at the end of the chapter quotes from real fathers who had a doula at the birth. I thought that it was great that they did this, making it a great chapter for dads and dads to be to read.  Chapter 5, discussed medicated birth and how your doula can help if you are planning on having an epidural. I enjoyed the myth busting facts that it provided. From how to build your support team to location of the birth, The Doula Advantage covers all of its bases.  The Doula Advantage  helps with asking questions such as why do you want a doula, and being able to answer the questions.  These are great pointers for me as a doula to know to be able to ask my clients in future.  This is all great information to have on hand. Chapter 13 was a great chapter for them to include, this chapter is titled becoming a doula. This chapter is a great chapter as it discusses everything from finances to the life of a doula, hard hours and sometimes crazy expectations.
In conclusion, I enjoyed every moment of this book, It made me think, and ask questions. I will recommend this book to clients. I’m tucking it nicely at the front of my lending library.

All Paying clients have full access to my lending library.
